Synopsis:  One of Us Is Lying is the story of what happens when five strangers walk into detention and only four walk out alive. Everyone is a suspect, and everyone has something to hide.

Pay close attention and you might solve this.
On Monday afternoon, five students at Bayview High walk into detention.
Bronwyn, the brain, is Yale-bound and never breaks a rule.
Addy, the beauty, is the picture-perfect homecoming princess.
Nate, the criminal, is already on probation for dealing.
Cooper, the athlete, is the all-star baseball pitcher.
And Simon, the outcast, is the creator of Bayview High’s notorious gossip app.

Only, Simon never makes it out of that classroom. Before the end of detention Simon’s dead. And according to investigators, his death wasn’t an accident. On Monday, he died. But on Tuesday, he’d planned to post juicy reveals about all four of his high-profile classmates, which makes all four of them suspects in his murder. Or are they the perfect patsies for a killer who’s still on the loose?

Everyone has secrets, right? What really matters is how far you would go to protect them.

Wow, what a page turner! This book was like Breakfast Club gone bad with a Gossip Girl twist and I absolutely loved it. From the moment I picked up this book, I couldn’t put it down.

This book had all your typical high school gossip and drama alongside a compelling murder mystery and it was so well done. The characters were well-written and multi-dimensional and I especially loved Bronwyn and Nate.

One of Us is Lying is told in first person from each of the four members of ‘the murder club’ and each POV was unique. Even without reading the name at the start of each section it was obvious which character was telling their story, as McManus wrote each character so distinctly.

One of Us is Lying had drama, it had intrigue, it had romance. It pretty much had everything I was looking for in a YA thriller.

This was a brilliant debut from Karen McManus and I can’t wait to read more from her!

A+

  1. I’m really looking forward to this one! So glad you enjoyed it. I think it can be difficult for some authors to make each character have a unique voice when using multiple POVs from first person, so glad to see this was well done!
